The 2024 Cayenne SUV got a big makeover and now offers six power options for customers. You can pick from three gas engine versions: base, S, and Turbo, or go for extra power and efficiency with three plug-in hybrids: base E-hybrid, S E-Hybrid, and Turbo E-Hybrid.
The luxury SUV market has always been competitive, but the Porsche Cayenne has always shone brightly among the competition. Loved for its dynamic drive, off-road capabilities and sleek look, it’s a favorite among car enthusiasts. Now, Porsche is upping the ante with the 2024 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid. This new variant fills the gap between the base and turbo models, bringing back the S E-Hybrid badge for the first time since 2018.
The latest addition to the Cayenne lineup, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid, marks the third electrified engine option in the series, fitting between the Cayenne E-Hybrid and Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid models. Designed to strike a balance between everyday practicality and performance, this model is available in both SUV and Coupe variants, enriching the lineup. Following comprehensive revisions earlier in the year, the hybrid technology of the new Cayenne offers improved electric range and faster charging times, thanks to its smart energy management system.
Under the hood of the Cayenne S E-Hybrid lies a revamped three-liter V6 turbo engine, delivering 348 hp (260 kW), coupled with a 174 hp (130 kW) electric motor. Together, they generate a system output of 512 hp and a maximum system torque of 553 lb-ft. These powertrains propel the Cayenne S E-Hybrid from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds, shaving off a tenth of a second compared to its non-hybrid twin-turbo V8 counterpart and covering the quarter-mile distance from a standstill in 13.0 seconds.
The Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid
- The 2024 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid represents a major update to the third generation, boasting improved driving dynamics, a bold exterior design, and advanced technology.
- Porsche has enhanced the suspension system to offer a refined and responsive driving experience, featuring modes for both comfort and performance.
- With its hybrid powertrain, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid achieves a balance of power and efficiency, boasting 512 horsepower and an estimated electric range exceeding 20 miles, making it a perfect option for environmentally conscious car enthusiasts.
Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)
One of the highlights of the 2024 Cayenne S E-Hybrid is its enhanced driving dynamics, Porsche has made a significant upgrade to its suspension system, providing a more precise and controlled driving experience. Using a standard suspension setup across all models below the Turbo GT trim, Porsche combines traditional steel springs with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). PASM is a smart damping system that actively continuously controls the damping force based on the road conditions and driving mode. Next it also adjusts shock absorber stiffness in real-time, catering to both comfort and performance needs. In normal mode, PASM offers a smoother ride for relaxed driving, while in sport mode, it stiffens up to enhance handling and performance. This combination guarantees ideal weight distribution and stability, giving drivers a sense of assurance and mastery behind the wheel. For settings are available: “Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Off-road”.
Adaptive Air Suspension with Two Chamber & Two Valve Technology
In the Cayenne S E-Hybrid, the standard adaptive air suspension enhances both performance and driving comfort. Using innovative two-chamber, two-valve technology, it offers a broad range of spring rates and dynamic behaviors, from comfort-focused to high performance. This enhanced adaptive air suspension, with full load-bearing air-spring struts in 2 chamber technology can achieve even greater balance of comfort and sportiness without compromising ride quality. The level system keeps the ride height consistent, adjusting the chassis height for different needs, like off-road driving. Plus, it can lower the rear for easier loading of the luggage area.
Chassis
Whether you’re driving or riding as a passenger, the Porsche experience should combine sportiness with excellent comfort. The Cayenne models achieve this seamlessly, thanks to their improved chassis and advanced technologies tailored to various driving conditions, including off-road terrain. Key features include adaptive air suspension, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) for active roll stabilization, and rear axle steering.
Brakes system
Every Cayenne model comes with a brake system featuring six-piston aluminum monobloc fixed calipers at the front and four-piston aluminum monobloc fixed calipers at the rear. This one-piece, enclosed design ensures exceptional dimensional stability, resulting in precise pressure points and impressively short braking distances.
More Standard Features
The Cayenne S E-Hybrid seamlessly blends into the existing model lineup with its visual integration. Standard features include 20-inch Cayenne S wheels and a stainless steel exhaust system with twin-tailpipes. The SUV version boasts a Silver exterior package, while the Coupe version features a standard Black exterior package. Matrix Design LED highlights with automatic high beams and Lane Change Assist are now standard.
The SUV is packed with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) aimed at improving safety and convenience. Standard features in the Cayenne include Active Speed Limit Assist with Traffic Sign Recognition, Adaptive Cruise Control, Evasion Assist, and Turn Assist. These technologies assist drivers in staying vigilant of their surroundings, ensuring safe speeds, and navigating tricky situations effectively.
Inside, drivers can expect eight-way seats, a Sport Chrono package with a mode switch on the steering wheel, Comfort Access keyless entry and start, stainless steel pedal pads and the Diamar interior package painted in Silvershade. The My Porsche app offers additional functions, including enhanced Apple CarPlay® integration, making access to car functions easier. The new Cayenne S E-Hybrid also offers added comfort options such as an optional passenger screen with in car video functions and an air quality system designed to filter out particles and hazardous substances.
Additionally, the S E-Hybrid models benefit from optimized hybrid systems in the latest Cayenne generation, featuring a 25.9 kWh battery capacity and an 11 kW on-board AC charger. With the standard Level 2 charger on a 240V circuit, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid can be fully charged in approximately two and a half hours.
Porsche knows the importance of continuous improvement, even for a successful model like the Cayenne. With significant updates to design, performance and technology, the 2024 Cayenne S E-Hybrid aims to maintain Porsche’s dominance in the luxury SUV market. This model blends power, efficiency, and cutting-edge tech for an unparalleled driving experience.
