In today’s article, we will continue to delve into the exclusive air suspension systems of the other two European luxury car brands – Bentley and Jaguar.

Bentley Dynamic Ride

Bentley’s Dynamic Ride system and the three-chamber active air suspension, coupled with adaptive damping, are crucial elements in maintaining the car’s equilibrium and form a solid basis for further enhancement.

Enhancing traction for rock crawling poses a challenge when aiming for a smooth on-road handling. Bentley addressed this by dividing the vehicle’s anti-roll bars and inserting electric motors between them. These motos, employing planetary gearsets for torque multiplication, able to deliver significant torque- up to 959 pound-feet to each anti-roll bar.

Although the vehicle operates on paved surfaces, the Dynamic Ride system greatly influences handling. During cornering, the motors manipulate the anti-roll bars to apply pressure on the outer wheels while lifting the inner ones, effectively countering body roll with equal and opposite forces.

Additionally, the system enhances ride comfort by generating upwards forces when encountering bumps, reducing the impact felt by the vehicle’s occupants. By constantly monitoring parameters like steering wheel positions and lateral acceleration, the motors can react swiftly, within a mere 0.06 seconds.

In off-road scenarios, Dynamic Ride enhances wheel articulation by independently adjusting the compression or extension of the suspension on each wheel, thanks to the separated left and right wheel systems and the motor’s intervention.

 

  • Integration of Electric Suspension and Anti-Roll Bar Technology: this combines electric suspension technology with active anti-roll bar technology, creating a smooth driving balance and enhancing the driving experience.

 

  • Cornering Balance and Comfort Improvement: When entering a curve, the electric motor quickly pushes down the outer wheel and lifts the inner wheel. This counterforce effectively reduces body roll, greatly enhancing ride comfort and providing outstanding handling.

 

  • High-Speed Response Motor: Especially during off-road driving, this system utilizes the motor to increase rather than decrease suspension compression or extension by decoupling the left and right wheels. This results in improved wheel contact for a superior dynamic driving experience.

 

  • Customized Driving Experience: The system allows drivers to customize settings according to personal preferences and driving needs. This flexibility enables drivers to enjoy personalized driving experiences in different driving scenarios, meeting their expectations and requirements.

Adaptive Dynamics

The Adaptive Dynamics system enhances both ride comfort and dynamic body control through the utilization of continuously adjustable damping technology. Adaptive suspension is a valuable feature found in Jaguar vehicles, enables drivers to customize their suspension according to various conditions. These systems typically offer settings such as low, medium and high allowing drivers to easily modify the vehicle’s performance with the push of a button.

Adaptive Dynamics constantly observes the vehicle’s movements at intervals of 2 milliseconds and computes the necessary damping force every 10 milliseconds. This rapid analysis allows it to promptly adjust to the driver’s commands and variations in road conditions, resulting in enhanced control and reduced body roll.

 

  • Real-Time Suspension Adjustment: Adaptive Dynamics, through sensors and real-time monitoring systems, can instantly adjust the suspension hardness of each wheel during the driving process. This real-time suspension adjustment ensures that the vehicle provides optimal suspension performance under different driving conditions.

 

  • Intelligent Damping Control: The system features intelligent damping control, adjusting the damping level of the shock absorbers based on driving conditions and the driver’s behavior. This intelligent damping adjustment allows the vehicle to maintain stability and driving comfort under different speeds and road conditions.

 

  • Dynamic Stability Control: Adaptive Dynamics is equipped with dynamic stability control, automatically adjusting the vehicle’s posture during the driving process to improve stability and traction. This feature is particularly significant during high-speed driving and sharp turns.

 

  • Personalized Driving Modes: Adaptive Dynamics offers various personalized driving modes, allowing drivers to choose different settings based on personal preferences and specific driving conditions. This flexibility enables drivers to adjust the vehicle’s suspension performance according to their preferences, creating the ideal driving experience.
